Michael Shanks interview, MMORPG doom and Stargate Universe trailer

In my last post I wrote about the upcoming MMORPG Stargate Worlds. It will be interesting to see what happens and if the project is dead in the water or not – further research shows news of funding issues, staff cuts and shoddy ‘craftsmanship’. Even in the below interview with Michael Shanks he refers the the growth of the Stargate Franchise beyond the series with movies and ‘failed video games’.

Another cool Stargate related thing is the theatrical trailer for Stargate Universe was released over the weekend. I’m interested to see how this show pans out – it looks at first glance to be a darker show with more of a space drama feel: think Stargate cross Battlestar Galactica. It even has a Battlestar Galactica-esque premise: A bunch of explorers from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities are stuck on a spaceship roaming the ether, with no way of returning home. The spaceship in question is an Ancient ship on autopilot that is seeding stargates across a distant galaxy.

SGU looks pretty awesome hey? The BSG comparison had occurred to me too (obviously) and it’ll be interesting to see how it goes. I was a little sceptical at first when it was announced, but seeing the trailers and hearing more and more about it I’m starting to get properly excited now :)
Plus, it’s gonna have Jack in it for 6 eps apparently, and Sam, and even Daniel too!

You’ve obviously found GW, but have you come across Joe Mallozzi’s blog yet (one of the writers and exec producers on SG1, SGA and SGU)? Lots of Stargate news and behind the scenes info there, as well as random things about dogs, food and books…

It is looking really good – I definitely got a BSG-feel from the trailer, but there is nothing wrong with that. It will be great to see a different style of show set in the SG universe.

I hope the Jack appearances don’t ruin your crush too much – it looks like he has stacked on a little since his SG-1 days… :)

Oh, and thanks for the tip on the blog – it looks to be a great resource!

    You’re welcome :)

And yeah, RDA’s starting to look his age a little of late, but the Jack-crush is unaffected, I assure you ;) It just becomes a ‘yay/aww Jack’ thing rather than a ‘phwoar Jack’ thing. He is nearly 60 now, after all.

But anyway, I have season 6 on DVD, so I can just go back and watch Paradise Lost anytime I want to remind myself of him in his prime… :)
