I’m a serial multi-tasker: I always have a number of projects running at any given time. To that end, this page is where I keep a summary of the more major and long-running projects that I am undertaking.
PhD Project

I think it would be hard to argue that this isn’t the largest project I’m currently undertaking! The goal of the project is the integration and visualisation of plant genetic and genomic data. To this end, the project aims to develop and apply bioinformatics techniques for the analysis of genetic and genomic information for cereal crops, with a focus on wheat and barley. This project is funded until May 2010.

Cognicology

This is probably the second biggest project I am undertaking at the moment. I expect this project to gain a significant amount of momentum and to carry on as my major focus as the PhD project winds up and beyond. It is a joint project between Alborz Fallah and myself. With this project we are creating a resource to share the techniques and personal habits that we have gained in the hope that others may also develop a positive and stronger self, for greater personal and professional success.

WiFi in Australia (WiAU)
![]() |
WiAU is a collection of user-generated, user-controlled maps for WiFi hotspots across Australia. All the maps on WiAU are all created by people who live in or frequent the local area. The original inspiration for this site was the WiFi in UK site by Neil Cocker, which is a marshalling point for a number of Google Maps denoting WiFi hotspots across various UK cities and towns.
WiAU takes a different approach. Using a combination of Opensource offerings such as OpenLayers, OpenStreetMap, WikiCreole and Python, I’ve created an interface to allow anybody to create, modify and augment hotspot maps for any location in Australia. This project is in beta at the moment and proving the interface holds I would love to extend it worldwide! WiFi in Australia website: |

Chris is a shining example of how, in a world where abortion is not as easily obtained as a leg of fried chicken, an ounce of prevention can be worth more than its weight in gold. He is currently completing a PhD in Bioinformatics which he hopes may one day help him get out of a speeding ticket.
